Meaning of Freedom

27 03 2011

We’re hearing a lot of the word “Freedom” lately especially in the Arab World. It’s not a new word and it’s been a subject to discussion ever since humans ever existed on Earth.

If you google the word “Freedom” you’ll get about 428,000,000 results in exactly 0.08 seconds! I’m sure you’re not gonna go through all these results and even if you want to I don’t know how long it will take you to read all these results!

In Wikipedia “Freedom” is defined as: “The state of being free, of not being imprisoned or enslaved.”

What is the meaning of “Being Free” anyway??? I think all humans are Freedom lovers in nature but the meaning of the word “Free” can vary from one human to another depending on their location, bringing up, religion, race, education, and the list goes on and on.

I think “Freedom” is a very general word that can have different and various explanations and meanings but I’ll try to sum that up in few simple words.

“Freedom” is when you are able to do whatever you want without negatively affecting anybody else with this free act of yours.

“Freedom” means that you are able to talk whatever you want and at the same time listen to what others are saying without having to convince each other with either ideas.

“Freedom” means respecting others for who they are and not for what they wear, what colour they are, where they come from, etc…

“Freedom” is very general yet dangerous. “Freedom” is more than just a word! It’s an act of respecting people for being humans and dealing with them as humans.

“Freedom” is a responsibility and being “Free” is not an easy task. When you’re ‘Free” you are responsible for each and every word you say and for each and every act you do.

“Being Free” doesn’t mean that you live in a world of your own. “Being free” means you are in a mental and physical state where you are totally able to deal with ALL humans and most important, respect them and understand them!

It’s never an easy task to be “Free”!
